We founded the Megan Lally Memorial Fund with the idea of combining many of Megan’s loves including running, live music and micro brewing into a fun event with a community atmosphere that could raise money for breast cancer research. And so was born the Run Like an Antelope series of 5K races and fun runs.
Our inaugural 5K was held in Worcester, MA on Sunday, October 14th, 2012. Over 300 runners, walkers and their athletic supporters came to Lake Park on a rainy day to stand-up to breast cancer. Their efforts were rewarded with celebratory post-race beer donated by our valued sponsor Harpoon Brewery and a set of music from the Antelope All-Stars.
Together, we raised over $25,000 donated to UMass Cancer Center of Excellence and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The bar was set very high for our first efforts!
For our 2nd and 3rd races, we relocated our start and finish line to allow attendees to run through downtown Worcester. The 2nd Run Like an Antelope 5K was held on October 6, 2013. Once again, participants were treated to a post-race celebration featuring beer by generous sponsor Wachusett Brewery and more music by the Antelope All-Stars. We donated $20,000 to the UMass Cancer Center of Excellence thanks to all our amazing runners, walkers and sponsors.
Our 3rd Run Like an Antelope 5K was held on October 4, 2014. With the help of our generous sponsors including Wormtown Brewery, multiple sets of music by amazing Don’t Let Go and all our incredible runners, walkers and volunteers, we donated $17,000 to the UMass Cancer Center of Excellence.
Huge, heartfelt thanks go out to all the incredible efforts by so many to make these events possible. Together we have raised over $60,000 with the goal of creating a world without breast cancer.
